Mike Allen - Silat Instructor

Mike Allen began his training in Martial Arts at the age of 15, when he started with amateur wrestling and western kickboxing. He was first introduced to Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) when he went to see a Jeet Kune Do (JKD) class with Erik Pedersen and other JKD instructors. He subsequently trained in JKD concepts for 3 years.

Due to Mike’s growing interest in FMA, Erik Pedersen brought Mike to see Guro Jun De Leon. At the time, Guro was just starting to teach FMA publicly, and coming to train with him was on an invitation-only basis. Mike was so impressed with Guro Jun and the quality of his students that he started training intensively at Guro Jun’s Kali De Leon (Formerly Arnis Academy in Toronto) almost immediately.

Through his training with Kali De Leon, Mike participated in many FMA demonstrations, assisted in the teaching of seminars and classes, and took part in international competitions. In 1999, Mike was the only participant from Canada at the 3rd Semi-Annual European Full Contact Tournament of the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) held in Galway, Ireland. Representing Kali De Leon, Mike won a gold medal.

In 2005, Mike received the rank of Apprentice Instructor under Guro Jun de Leon.

In January of 2006, Mike began teaching FMA under his school Evolution Filipino Fighting Arts.

He has also appeared in several feature films and made-for-television movies, in which he acted, performed stunts and developed his own fight choreography.
